Borussia Dortmund forward Ousmane Dembele has been declared missing by the club’s coach Peter Bosz after he failed to report to training.
Dembele, 20, has been a target for Barcelona, who reportedly are willing to spend in excess of €100 million to get the Frenchman.
“Ousmane Dembele was not in training today. We do not know why. We tried to reach him but we did not,” Bosz, who led Ajax to the UEFA Europa League final last season, told reporters on Thursday.
“There was no sign yesterday that Ousmane Dembele would not be here today. We hope nothing terrible has happened.”
Dembele was outstanding for Dortmund last season, scoring 10 goals and providing 21 assists in 49 matches in all competitions.
Barcelona sold Neymar to Paris Saint-Germain for €222m this summer and in the transfer market for reinforcement of their forward line.
The Catalan side have also been heavily linked with Liverpool star Philippe Coutinho
