Baxter Disappointed With Bafana Draw Vs Super Eagles

By Johnny Edward:
South Africa coach, Stuart Baxter, is disappointed at his side’s 1-1 draw with the Super Eagles of Nigeria, but insists his team will fight to clinch the final qualification ticket when they face Libya in Sfax Tunisia in March 2019, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Buhle Mkhwanazi bundled in Samuel Kalu’s cross for an own goal in the ninth minute of the game, but an easy tap in from Lebo Mothiba in the 26th minute earned the hosts a share of the spoils from the match day 5 encounter.

Eagles Draw With Bafana In Jo’burg, Bag AFCON 2019 Spot

Bafana Bafana, remain second in Group E following the draw with nine points from five matches. And to qualify for AFCON 2019, they must avoid defeat to Libya who are in third place with seven-points.

“I am disappointed and at the same time proud a little bit that we took four points off the Super Eagles,” Baxter said in his post match interview.

“The only goal we conceded so far was an own goal. I’m disappointed that we were not brave enough. I said it at half time that we gave them lots of problems when we played through the middle with our movements.”

Baxter added: “We should have been braver especially in the second half, but it seems we were instead nervous. We were playing more long balls instead of running at them, but the fight goes on against Libya.

Rohr: Eagles Played Safe Against Risks Vs South Africa

“We couldn’t get into the game like I wanted. I wanted the wingers to get on one on one with their defenders, but it was not to be because of the blocked spaces.”

Nigeria will host Seychelles in their final Group E game in March while Libya who play their home games away from Tripoli will host South Africa.

Did I hear someone say he’s disappointed with his team and proud ‘a little’ too. I thought Baxter boasted before the match that he has the best players who could wreck havoc and get a second defeat against the eagles. Why was the so called wingers nervous to go one on one with eagle’s defenders? Pride goes before a disappointment and downfall. This is what happens when a coach is too full of himself. Libya would complete the task in sfax Tunisia next year and qualify ahead of this boastful South Africans.

This Baxter of a coach is so preoccupied with the Super Eagles that he put everything he had into the Nigerian game at Uyo and forgot to plan for his other games. He thoroughly got exhausted after the Uyo game to the extent he’s now struggling to qualify. Pity!

  • I’m sure he would be thankful to the linesman who wrongly ruled out two clear goals, if he’s opportuned to watch the replay.

  • That coach is a very arrogant man. Rohr even gave SA some credit, calling them a good side and praising Tau. But this Baxter is so full of himself, never gives anyone credits and only talks about how “good” his team. A match we actually won 3-1, if not for the ref and linesman who wanted to still give SA some hope. He said we were tired, yet we scored one more at the dying minutes.

  • SA coach better be thankful to the linesman for wrongly ruling out two clear goals. South Africa played well but struggled to create clear cut chances.
Nigeria needed a draw, we got it. All good

Baxter you can say whatever you want not your fault. If to say we will put our house in place, you wouldn’t have been saying this. South Africa is not in our class. Meanwhile, Libya will beat you and your Bafana Bafana team to the ticket. The time will tell. God bless Nigeria!!!

Mr. Baxter, you should be thankful to the match officials for robbing us to keep you in the race.
    .
I am not bitter about the draw, but I feel it is unfair to just let the match officials get away with cheating.
    .
I have a gut feeling the offside calls were no mistaķes. It is as clear as noon that we were robbed!
    .
THE REEFEREES SHOULD BE INVESTIGSTED! The NFF should not let this go!
    .
I remember they tried to rob Senegal in similar fashion last year in the World Cup qualifiers but the match was replayed after it was found out that the match officials were trying to fix the game.
    .
I don’t know why no one is talking about this. I know we have qualified, but NFF, please don’t let this go! We need to appeal to CAF and the match officials must be investigated!

South Africa is not in the same rank with Nigeria. We told them so. Their 2 zero win last year was a fluke. We told them also. They tend to bribe the referees and their linemen to win their home games. Those goals we scored today were all real in any actual context. Now, we can say with full confidence that South Africa will not qualify for Cameroon next year. No way they will beat Libya at home. Their coach is the worst and no good individual who go about parading himself as a coach because he beat Nigeria at home. South Africa got to stop bribing the linemen and get a better coach if they are to improve on their standard of play. Now, we used them to qualify for AFCON as Senegal used them to qualify for the World Cup in Russia. Their coach deserves to be fired after their game with Libya next year. He is a stupid coach and no good for the South Africa team.

  • Instead of him to be celebrating the two goals that the fake referee help them cancelled.

Just forget Nations cup 2019 as Libya will surely beat you.

If our funny coach had brought in Isaac Success on time you won’t be saying this trash.

“We couldn’t get into the game like I wanted. I wanted the wingers to get on one on one with their defenders, but it was not to be because of the blocked spaces.”

Now can we appreciate Genorh Rorh for his tactical awareness, being able to draw out plans that neutralised what the South Africans wanted to throw at us. Some people watching the game with white and black, will come here, open their mouth to spew trash on how our coach doesn’t know what he is doing. Since the German came on board, our football became organized. The team plays with a recognized flow.grinds out result and are generally organized within their ranks. If you don’t know how to support your own, keep your mouth shut. You know yourselves. Thank you

    • I agree with u totally Joel. This is the reason Rhor decided to use 3-5-2 formation to neutralise their counter attacks because bafana players are very fast,he must have learnt his lessons from the loss in Uyo last year.

@Joel Chidi, lol. People still dey watch black and white tv? Like you post. A lot of ill-informed football illiterates on this forum, if you ask me.

The officiation in the  Nigeria-South Africa matach today was a DISGRACE! The real score line is Nigeria 3 South Africa 1. No wonder African referees are considered as NO GOOD in international matches. Two clear goals denied in one match! Somebody must have spent a lot of money. There’s no such thing as Nigeria-South Africa football rivalry. They are not in our class. Ghana yes! Cameroon Yes! South Africa? Certainly No!

The Officiating in the Nigeria -South Africa AFCON Qualifier today was a huge DISGRACE! Two clear goals denied in one match! The real score line is Nigeria 3,South Africa 1. No wonder African coaches are considered as NO GOOD at  the international stage. Somebody must have sent a lot of money.  If these officials are not investigated then Africa  still has a long way to go in world rate soccer.

  • I smell a rat in the wrong calls of the match officials cancelling those two clear goals scored by Nigeria on the alter of “offside”. The South Africans are it again with their proclivity of influencing matches by crook. This ignominy must not be allowed to pass,IT MUST BE INVESTIGATED!
That said, the South Africans could still nick qualification as one of the top third placed nations from the groups, considering we will be having more countries(24 countries) participating in next year’s AFCON.It’s not strictly the first two teams that go through, though I wish the South Africans don’t get to qualify.

  • Austin 4 weeks ago

I advise the NFF to report this to CAF so that we could be awarded our goals and the referee or referees in the match dealt with accordingly. Something is definitely wrong in South Africa. They have this attitude of influencing matches at home one way or the other. They did did it against Senegal in the world cup qualifiers. They have done it again to Nigeria. If we don’t report this it will repeat itself again. So we can still have a post match win if our complaint is treated well. We shouldn’t just celebrate qualification and keep quiet.

  • beryl 4 weeks ago

we should take this to nff, caf and fifa both on tweeter and any other means to investigate the officiating of the match. Pls, i dey beg ona wel wel.

Mr Pinnick has to standup and do something. Nigeria is a big footballing nation in Africa.
We cant let the likes of southafrica and gambia cheat us in competitive games without consequences.
NFF must do something not fold arms and do nothing as they do all the time.

  • Edoman of New Jersey, USA 4 weeks ago

We urge the NFF to lunch complain against these Gambia Officers to AFCON and FIFA and to revise the GOALS that Nigeria were denied and it should be restored immediately.
We will not stop agitating until these 2 goals are restored to read 1 goal south Africa 3 goals Nigeria.

Every body, go look at the full match at YouTube to decide how bad and corrupt the Gambia Officials were.

Am surprised that the man Baxter is still talking. After they bought the referee, who denied us two clean and classical goals. As far as am concerned Nigeria won that match. He should try and qualify the south African team for the nation cup.

  • The man Baxter is not even ashamed, after the day light robbery they did with the referee he is still talking. As far as am concerned Nigeria won that match. The referee denied us 2 clean and classical goals. I suggest that the NFF should lodge a formal complain to the CAF and FIFA, So they can investigate the match officials. He Baxter should try and qualify the south African team for the next year’s nations cup. We’re not in the same class with the south African.
