Word was rife in Yenagoa that Bayelsa United poor run of form may have been hampared by series of delays in releasing funds for the day to day running of the club.
Complete Sports Saturday scooped that the club has been experiencing delays in securing funds to prosecute some of its league matches; a trend that has continued unabated since the begining of the new soccer season.
Our decent source who pleaded anonymity, disclosed that the club travelled to Nassarawa in batches and that affected the team’s performance in their 2-1 loss against the Baba Ganaru led side.
“The Permanent Secretary for sport is not releasing money to Bayelsa United to execute matches,” he begins.
“He intentionally seizes funds, releasing it more often than not a day before the team is scheduled to travel for away games, thus making the team arrive late to venues without having time to prepare well.
“Even in our 2-1 loss to Nasarawa United, the team had to travel in batches which affected our performance.
The management however call on the state government to help them rescue the team from the drop zone.
“The state Government needs to intervene and salvage the club from relegation.” he pleaded.
Bayelsa are currently 18th on the log with 27 points. They host relegation battler Kaduna United in the week 24 fixtures today.
