Beach AFCON Final: Sand Eagles Fight For 3rd Title, Senegal Seek 4th

Nigeria Supersand Eagles will take on familiar foes, Senegal in the final of the 2016 CAF Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations at the Eko Atlantic Beach, Lagos at 8pm tonight, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Both the Sand Eagles and Senegal will represent Africa at the 2017 FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in Bahamas following their semi-final wins against Morocco and Egypt respectively on Saturday.

This is the third time the two countries are clashing in the final of the Beach AFCON. In their first meeting in Durban 2007 in South Africa, the Sand Eagles won 6-5.

The Senegalese avenged the 2007 defeat to the Sand Eagles by defeating them 7-4 in the 2011 edition final in Casablanca, Morocco.

Tonight's final clash will be the seventh time both countries will be crossing path. While Senegal have won the last previous three meetings; 2011 final, 2013 semi-final and 2015 semi-final, the Sand Eagles have also won three times (2007 group stage, 2007 final and 2009 final).

The Sand Eagles who will be contesting their fifth Beach AFCON final, are the second most successful team on the continent with two titles (2007 and 2009).

On their part, Senegal, appearing in their sixth final, are Africa's most successful team with three titles (2008, 2011 and 2013).

And the two countries will hope their star men bring their top form to bear in order to secure the tiltle.

For the Sand Eagles, Azeez Abu who has four goals so far in this year's tournament, will be looked upon to help make sure the trophy doesn't leave the shores of Nigeria.

For Senegal, Babacar Fall, one of the most outstanding players with nine goals so far, will be banked on to secure a fourth African title for the French-speaking country.
