Buhari Congratulates Eagles On AFCON Qualification

By Johnny Edward:
President Muhammadu Buhari has hailed the Super Eagles on their qualification for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

A 1-1 draw recorded by the Super Eagles of Nigeria saw them clinch a ticket for the 2019 AFCON after missing out on the last two editions in 2015 and 2017.

Nigeria join Uganda, Mali and Morocco to have qualified for the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations on Saturday.

The Eagles lead Group E with 10 points from five matches after they were held to a 1-1 draw by home team South Africa in Johannesburg.

An own goal by Buhle Mkhwanazi off a Samuel Kalu’s cross in the ninth minute of the match gave the Super Eagles the lead, but an easy tap in from Lebo Mothiba in the 26th minute earned South Africa a share of the spoil from the matchday 5 encounter.

“The President joins millions of football-loving Nigerians in commending the team for their spirited and disciplined performance against a very formidable opponent which earned them qualification with the final match against Seychelles a mere formality,” a media statement signed by Presidential media aide Femi Adesina reads.

President Buhari said he was impressed by the team’s confidence, sense of patriotism and professionalism, and commended these attributes to all Nigerians.

Buhari also promised the Eagles support at the final tournament in Cameroon.

Mr. President, thank you for the support you continue to show your Super Eagle. However, you should have fired your corrupt sport minister who is now so marginalized and tried to bring your good name into disrupt. Because Nigeria is now qualified for Cameroon next year, you shall get my support for your reelection next year. l did not support President Tramp on what he said about you. Buhari, you are more classic than our US president.

    • Please steer clear of politics in this forum. Maybe I’m a bit grouchy because the SE were robbed of victory because of dubious officiating. It is really very painful to delve into an analysis of the Nigerian political situation: *marauding killer Fulani herdsmen, *humongous corruption of key APC officials being covered up, *Buhari’s insistence on controlling the resources of the South-South, *tribalism/nepotism in political appointments, *harassment of key opposition figures etc, etc.

Let’s forget the rotten politicians and focus on soccer, the only remaining unifying factor in Nigeria today.

Sack GR? No. He’s a great coach. CAF/FIFA should investigate those Gambian officials for robbing us of victory over SA

With immediate effect, start the investigation of the Gambian referee and his linesmen for their disgraceful and despicable fraud they exhibited in this match between South Africa and Nigeria today. Just let them explain how they arrived at their decisions which thereby deprived NIGERIANS of THOSE beautiful goals.
