Bursaspor Join Race To Sign Omeruo From Chelsea

By Adeboye Amosu:

Turkish club, Bursaspor, have joined Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Goztepe in the race to sign Nigeria defender, Kenneth Omeruo on loan from Chelsea, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Omeruo, 24, is yet to make an appearance for Chelsea since linking up with the Blues from Standard Liege in 2012.

He look set for another loan move after he was overlooked by new Chelsea gaffer, Maurizio Sarri in all the club’s pre-season games.

The versatile defender spent last season on loan at Turkish side, Kasimpasa.

He has also had stints with Middlesbrough and another Turkish outfit, Alanyaspor.

According to a report in Turkish news outlet, Olaygazette.co.uk, Bursaspor are looking to reunite Omeruo with his international teammates, Shehu Abdullahi and William Troost-Ekong.

Another Nigerian, Mikel Agu spent last season on loan at Bursaspor from Portuguese giants FC Porto.

  • Omeruo – Another Loan Move

Signing for Chelsea FC in 2012 was meant to be the beginning of big things to come for Omeruo however 6 years on, he is yet again looking for another club to go out on loan.

Since appending his signature for the London outfit, loan arrangements have seen Omeruo make the following journeys:

2012–2013 → ADO Den Haag (loan)

    2014–2015 → Middlesbrough (loan)

    2015–2016 → Kasımpaşa (loan)

    2016–2017 → Alanyaspor (loan)

    2017–2018 → Kasımpaşa (loan)

For a player who ordinarily should qualify for a British work permit, it is a surprise that no English Premier League, Championship or even a Scottish Premier League club have moved to sign him.

Equally shocking is the fact that none of the clubs he had previously been loaned to have made serious moves to sign him permanent from Chelsea.

All these still don’t deflect from the fact that Omeruo is a decent enough African defender.

He can be timely and tidy in tackles and tends to be neat in interceptions.

Omeruo does have his flaws but so do every other defender to one degree or the other.

This is hoping that Omeruo sorts out his long-term club future in the coming days so he can enjoy the sort of stability that his career deserves.
