CAF Awards: Moses Dropped As Salah, Aubameyang, Mane Make Final Shortlist; Oshoala, Rohr, Eagles Nominated

By James Agberebi:
Super Eagles and Chelsea star Victor Moses has been surprisingly left out of the final three-man shortlist for the CAF African Player of the Year award as Egypt’s Mohamed Salah, Senegal’s Sadio Mane and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Gabon made the final cut.

The final shortlist, selected from an initial list of 30, was unveiled on Monday at the Movenpick Hotel, Accra, Ghana.

Salah beat Moses, Mane and Aubameyang to the BBC version of the award.

Super Eagles head coach Gernot was however nominated in the final three-man shortlist for the Coach of the Year and will slug it with Argentine and Egypt’s coach Hector Cuper and Wydad Casablanca’s L’Hussein Amoutta.

Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala made the Women’s Player of the Year final shortlist and will contend with South Africa’s Chrestina Kgatlana and Cameroon’s Gabrielle Aboudi Onguene.

For the Men’s National Team of the Year nominees, Super Eagles of Nigeria, African champions Cameroon and Egypt made the final list.

And for the Women’s National Team of the Year, Nigeria’s Falconets (U-20 team) were nominated alongside Ghana’s U-20 team and Banyana Banyana.

Meanwhile, the Club of the Year nominees include Al Ahly pof Egypt, TP Mazembe of DR Congo and Morocco’s Wydad Casablanca and the nominees for the Youth Player of the Year are Kreptin Diatta of Patson Daka of Zambia and Salam Giddou of Mali.

  • Y not moses? because he won EPL an also qualify for world cup,is da not enough

  • why won’t he be dropped (victor Moses).? sometimes when u call him for national assignment,he would be feigning injury, this is d cumulative negative effect of not honoring national assignment atimes.for me ,I’m not surprised at all.

  • There is no surprise about his drop from the race. Moses did not come close to these guys & up till now, his playing style is not in any way match up with these guys.

    • My friend, moses deserves to be among the top three.victor moses is very influential for nigeria.mane has no huge influence for senegal. As for aubemayang, only God knows why he is in the top three. He is a useless player for his country.Even salah for AS Rome last season,he was not as good as moses was for chelsea

  • Don’t mind this CAF people, the same way they didn’t give it to Jay Jay OKOCHA.

So sorry for moses Nigeria did not participate in AFCON and therefore he was judged on that, he did very well with chelsea won the premier league which none of the three listed did not win with with their club side,is a big pity, I wish moses luck

  • personaly, i was not too surprise about this outcome, because since they has turned it into sentimental award between Anglo phone and Franco phone countries, it has lost it credibilities, it is high time caf explain the criteria they are using to give this Africa footballer of the year award, because it is disheartening to know that one of the African greatest ever and one of the most respected black man to ever play soccer, i mean the magician Austin jj Okocha did’nt win Africa footballer of the year award,if we are to look at it from individual brilliance perspective Moses is force to recon with through out last season and he won premiership with chelsea, non of those three players listed above win any trophy with their respective club last season.

  • Moses did a great job last season at Chelsea and should have been shortlisted…. But who should be removed? Absolutely no one. Salah, Mane and Aubameyang are world class players…

    • World class players ? Pls rephrase again

Been a Nigerian doesn’t mean you should be biased. Moses is not on the wavelength to those guys…they are far better than him and I think its high time people realise our boys are letting us down individually. Salah, Mane and Aubameyang are world class players I repeat it again.

    • Yes there are,
      Believe in what you have

i know why they drop Moses because Nigeria is winning coach of the year, female player of the year, team of the year. Thaz why, CAF abi i lie.

  • There are all partial, and politicians

I don’t care moses is the best of all these is not easy to play two different roles both club and country.

  • MOSES TRIED BUT AFRICAN FOOTBALL AWARD IS ALWAYS GIVEN TO THE BEST STRIKERS

CAF and their politics, I wish them good luck.

  • kiddo 6 months ago

na so we beat Argentina fifa rank us 50th my guy carry premire ship caf remove him for line dnt be supprise this people go do us ojoro for world cup seriously

  • Well…May be those 3 worth it but one thing I hate to hear is that Moses is not in their league. Somebody dat single handedly won his country a nations cup and always d best on d pitch weneva he plays for the country and also a player that his club side suffers weneva he is not on d field of play despite playing in an unusual position. Nawa for some Nigerians… Assuming u people are from Cameroon, u will know that aubameyang, salah, mane can’t do more than what moses did during qualifiers. He torments, he scores, always everywhere.. Do these people play like messi or ronaldo? Salah was a flop in Chelsea where moses currently plays. For now…I agree with CAF but that doesn’t make them better than him.Aubameyang currently has dropped big time.

  • where is victor Moses, the only one that won a trophy, this is partiality… took Nigeria to world cup, Aubumayeang did nothing; can’t even take Gabon to W/cup….. CAF is trash.

  • Na only mouth Nigeria get, calling herself giant of Africa. She no fit use the so called giant status to play high level football politics and ensure her players are not sidelined.
