Warri Wolves center-back, Ike ThankGod has posited that the CAF Confederation Cup race is still wide open despite the Seasiders disappointing scoreless draw with Tunisian foes, AC Bizertin Sunday in Warri.

The result puts the Nigerians on tight rope going into the reverse fixture this weekend but ThankGod has rubbished  suggestions of the Seasiders reaching the bus stop of their continental silverware hunt this term.

“For us it was a disappointing result which I believe did not reflect our performance in the match”, starts the former Heartland of Owerri stopper.

“We controlled the game and subjected them to their own half of the pitch for a greater part of the game but goals didn’t come to show for our dominance.

“It was sad and painful because matches are won by the number of goals you score so no matter the pressure you put your opponent through, no matter the amount of possession you enjoy no one cares except the number of goals you are able to score.”

ThankGod was in the thick of things when Heartland reached the CAF Champions League final in 2009, losing to TP Mazembe of DR Congo on away goal rule after a 2-2 aggregate scoreline.
He was also part of the Naze Millionaires squad that reached the group stage of the competition the following year (2010) and helped home based Super Eagles win the WAFU Nations Cup same year, scoring four goals from his defensive role.

ThankGod rubbish thoughts of the side meeting their waterloo in Tunis in the return leg match this weekend.
“Football is not mathematics where one plus one always gives two.

“So I’m confident we’re still in the race. Its good the (first leg) match ended goaless, this means we must score in Tunis and avoid defeat.

“Any score draw there can see us through and we can do it. They will come out to attack and look for goals and this will give us advantage.

“We’ll surprise them right there at their own back yard. Yes, we can shock them and this is what we want to do and we are capable of doing it”, the tall defender stressed.
