Confederation of Africa Football ,CAF, has confirmed the withdrawal of Chad from the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations Qualifiers.
In an e-mail sent to CAF by the Football Federation of Chad on Sunday 27th March, Chad attributed their withdrawal to financial constraints.
Following the withdrawal, CAF, in a statement released, suspended Chad from next year's AFCON and also fined them $20,000.
According to the release by CAF: "The Chad Football Federation withdraws from the AFCON 2017 Qualifiers where they participated in group G alongside Nigeria, Egypt and Tanzania.
"In conformity to article 61 of the regulations of the competition: if a team withdraws from the qualifying phase organised in groups, all the result shall be annulled (points, scored and conceded goals)."
"Hence, the matches of Chad of the first three days of group G matches are cancelled and their results will not be taken into consideration.
"Accordingly, following the decision of CAF Executive Committee dated January 15th 2015: any group reduced to three teams following a team withdrawal will only qualify the first team of that group."
"Furthermore, in conformity to article 59 of the regulations of the competition: the Chadian Football Association is suspended for the upcoming edition of the AFCON and must pay the monetary fine of $20,000," the release stated.
