The Confederation of African Football and former England striker Michael Owen have added their voices to those praising Nigerian youngster Alex Iwobi for his brilliantbshowing for Arsenal against Everton on Saturday.
CAF sent a congratulatory message to Iwobi after he scored his first-ever goal for Arsenal in their 2-0 win against Everton in the English Premier League.
Danny Welbeck gave Arsenal the lead before Iwobi, who was making his first start in the EPL, finished off a long range pass by Hector Bellerin.
CAF wrote on their official Twitter handle: “Congratulations Alex Iwobi on scoring your first Premier League goal on your full Arsenal debut.”
Iwobi has featured in every competition for Arsenal since breaking into the first team this season.
He is expected to feature for the Super Eagles in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Egypt this week.
Owen has also described Iwobi as a brilliant player after the Super Eagles starlet’s recent performances.
Owen hailed the 19-year-old for distinguishing himself in the games against Barcelona and Everton.
“I just think he has been brilliant since he’s come into the side,” Owen told the Sport Review.
“He has loads of energy, he’s a strong runner and good passer of the ball.
“He played well in midweek and he played well again against Everton.”
