CAF Offers South Africa AFCON 2019 Hosting Rights

CAF Offers South Africa AFCON 2019 Hosting Rights

South African Football Association (SAFA) president Danny Jordaan has confirmed that the Confederation of African Football (CAF) wants South Africa to step in as hosts of the Africa Cup of Nations AFCON 2019, at short notice, according to a report on South Africa’s Times Live.

CAF stripped Cameroon of the AFCON 2019 hosting rights at the weekend due to delays in preparing for the continental showpiece, and the continental football governing body is now seemingly now eyeing South Africa as a replacement.

Jordaan told the SAFA AGM in Sandton on Sunday that the continental football governing body has asked SA to seriously consider taking over as AFCON 2019 hosts.

The Safa president returned to SA on Sunday morning after attending Caf’s Extraordinary Executive Committee meeting in Accra‚ Ghana, where the decision to dump Cameroon was taken.

The report also revealed that Safa will meet the South African government first before making a decision on whether to accede to the request.

South Africa last staged the Cup of Nations in 2013 which was won by Nigeria.

The 2019 event is scheduled for June 15-July 13, a change from its traditional January-February slot and it will be the first to feature 24 teams — up from 16 at the 2017 edition in Gabon.

South Africa is the true giant of Africa if I’m to be honest who thinks the same? Hahaha

I agree with you Chima. It is very shameful for Africa. The whole continent is like a continent of the blind and one-eyed South Africa is the king at the moment.

  • South Africa ke? Why? Cos they’re not likely to qualify? I suspect this is purely economic motives (broadcast rights etc.), rather than footballing reasons. I think this Jordan throws money around to refs and CAF officials. SA just hosted it as recent as 2013. When last did Morroco host? 1988. Why not give it to them? They hosted a fantastic CHAN this year after all.

HAhah why not mention Nigeria lmao!

      • Ahh, we got no chance nah. For starters, with Boko Haram, most of the countries will refuse to come. Lol.

I think CAF should organise the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations like Uefa will be organising the 2020 Euros with 12 host countries which should I nominate:
    -South Africa
    -Egypt
    -Tunisia
    -Algeria
    -Ghana
    -Ivory Coast
    -Nigeria
    -Mali
    -Guinea
    -Senegal
    -Cameroon

Each country will host three group stage matches and one match in the round of 16 or quarter-finals. My suggested match allocation for the 12 countries is as follows:

Group stage, round of 16, semi-finals, and final: Egypt

Group stage and quarter-finals: Nigeria, South Africa , Tunisia , Algeria

Group stage and round of 16: Ghana , Ivory Coast , Mali, Guinea , Senegal , Cameroon, and Kenya.

Because the matches are widely dispersed with each country expected to host just 4, existing infrastructures in these cities should be adequate to support the few games allocated to them in the tournament.

    Just my recommendation…..

All these teams mentioned am sure are not half as ready as South Africa. They are the only team that qualifies for impromptu hosting. If you check it Morocco will need long time to prepare for that tournament with a lot of excuses. South Africa on the other hand have the infrastructure and facilities and also man power to handle this within a short period of time. Infact they have taken over as Giant of Africa. It’s a shame though. Take a look at their stadium, standard and everly ready. It’s not like some other nations that’s will only make their pitch standard enough to use when it’s time to host.

CAF Officials. Please, take the above recommendation seriously. South Africans are not a serious football fans. Their officials relies on bribery to win matches. Suppose their Govt refuse to take the offer at this time of their economic woos. It will only demonstrate to the whole World how foolish and stupid the CAF Officials are. Today is Cameroon, tomorrow is Morocco, next tomorrow South Africa. The World are watching.
