CAF Threatens To Stop Eagles From AFCON

The Confederation of African Football has put further pressure on the factional Nigeria Football Federation President, Chris Giwa, to quit office after threatening to stop the Super Eagles from participating in the Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco next year.

CAF’s position follows FIFA’s order that Giwa should stop parading himself as the NFF President after a sham election that did not follow due process. An initial deadline of 1 September for Giwa to quit was ignored.

FIFA has given the NFF until Monday morning to fix the date for new elections into the board, with ousted President Aminu Maigari back in office and overseeing the congress. The elections must be held as soon as possible.

If the ban comes into force on Monday it means the African champions would not be able to play their Africa Cup of Nations qualifier on 10 September in South Africa.

CAF has thus confirmed that if Nigeria gets banned and cannot play South Africa next Wednesday, Super Eagles are out of 2015 AFCON qualifiers with no way back.

I read on the pages of few Newspapers this morning that Giwa said he will not leave the office unless an Appeal Committee or Court of Arbitration for Sports flaws his kangaroo election. Do we need any prophet to tell us his election is illegal? FIFA has rejected him, what is he waiting for? He and his godfather (Danagogo) pushing him should be ashamed of themselves. My advice to the Federal Government is that Giwa should be arrested by DSS with immediate effect if he doesn’t comply with the 2nd FIFA’s directive by the close of business today. Nigeria is bigger than one person, he cannot put our AFCON defence in jeopardy for his own self aggrandizement. Latest by tomorrow morning, I expect Maigari back in the office. Enough is enough, this saga has made Nigeria to become the laughing stock of the world.

  • Where are those supporting the impeachment of Maigari on KON. Because you believe getting Maigari out of the way will make it easy to bring your thin god, Keshi back in saddle to coach the SE. I mean people like Kola US, Game 147… You guys don’t care if our football is destroyed. You will do anything including destroying the structure to make sure Keshi stays and Danagogo is the henchman. Let’s see how far you all can go with this…

@Olu: Is Maigari against Keshi continuing as the eagles coach? Thought Keshi was Maigari’s man. I am Just asking.

Olu, please don’t bring your argument from KON to here.
