Two-time African champions, Enyimba will look to secure a place in the quarter-final stage of the CAF Confederation Cup when they face Congo’s CARA Brazzaville in a Group C encounter today (Wednesday) at their newly refurbished Enyimba International Stadium, Aba, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
The Peoples Elephant sit in second position in the group with nine points, same number of points with CARA Brazzaville who have a better goal difference and must beat the visitors to secure their passage into the knockout round.
The Aba giants boosted their qualification chances with a 1-0 away win against Djoliba of Mali on match day five in a tie that could have ended their spell in the competition if they had lost.
Playing at their newly renovated home ground for the first time in almost three years should also be an added incentive to Enyimba players who have missed the support from the bulk of their home fans in recent times.
“For me, this is one of the biggest games in the history of the club and we must go all out to ensure that we didn’t disappoint our fans,” Enyimba midfielder, Dare Ojo told CSN.
“They (CARA Brazzaville) beat us 3-0 on their home ground, and it’s time for us to avenge that defeat plus there is the quarter-final ticket at stake.
“The away win against Djoliba has boosted our confidence and we now believe we can make it through.”
Third placed Williamsville Athletic Club of Cote d’Ivoire will hosts already eliminated Djoliba of Mali in the group’s other fixture.
