CAFCL: Youssef Scores, Ohawuchi Subbed On As 10-Man Zamalek Draw At Al Ahli Tripoli, Crash Out

By James Agberebi:

Super Eagles midfielder, Maarouf Youssef was on target for 10-man Zamalek team, but it was not enough as they crashed out in round 16 group stage of the 2017 CAF Champions League after drawing 2-2 at home with Libya's Al Ahli Tripoli  in Group B on Sunday, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

Also in action for Zamalek was former Flying Eagles 2009 FIFA U-20 World Cup star Stanley Ohawuchi who was brought on in the 66th minute.

Zamalek needed an outright win to stand a chance of progressing into the quarter-finals. They got off to a good start when Basem Morsi gave them the lead on 14 minutes.

On the stroke of halftime, Al Ahli Tripoli equalised through Anis Mohamed Ghanudi,  while Zamalek's Mahmoud Hamdi was sent off.

In the 69th minute, Al Ahli Tripoli went 2-1 up thanks to Vianney Mabide.

But in the 75th minute, Youssef made it 2-2 for Zamalek, but Al Ahli Tripoli held on to secure the point.

With the draw, Zamalek finished third on six points, while Al Ahli Tripoli finished second on nine points with Algeria's USM Algiers topping the group on 11 points.

Zimbabwe's CAPS United occupy bottom in the group on six points.

Both USM Algiers and Al Ahli Tripoli advance into the quarter-finals.

Youssef's goal was his first in this year's CAF Champions League and his second in seven appearances in all competitions for Zamalek.

Zamalek lost 3-1 on aggregate against South Africa's Mamelodi Sundowns in the final of last year's CAF Champions League.
