Jose Callejon has told Napoli teammates that he is ready to snub interest from the Premier League to join Atletico Madrid, according to reports.
The 28-year-old has impressed in Serie A since leaving Real Madrid in 2013.
The winger’s goalscoring record has reportedly attracted interest from Chelsea, Liverpool and Manchester City in recent times.
But the former Espanyol flier has told teammates that he is on his way back to Madrid to join Atletico in the summer, according to Cadena SER.
The news is sure to spark a fresh round of speculation over which player could be on his way out at the Vicente Calderón Stadium.
Callejon’s ability to play in any of the forward positions could mean that the likes of Antoine Griezmann – previously linked with Arsenal – or Mario Mandzukic – also a target for the Gunners could be surplus to requirements next term.
Last year Callejon spoke of his gratitude towards Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho, saying: “Mourinho? I owe him a lot. With him I spent some good years, I won titles and I grew as a player.
“I did not expect him to bring me back to Real Madrid. He was demanding but also very nice to me. I sent him a message when I became a father.”
