The Secretary General of the Nigeria Rowing Canoe and Sailing Federation, Olubunmi Oluode, has stated that Jonathan Akinyemi and Chierika Ukogu are both intensifying their preparations ahead of the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
Akinyemi will be representing Nigeria in the Canoe Slalom and Kayak event at this year's Olympic Games.
It will be his second appearance at the Olympics after taking part in London 2012.
Ukogu, who will be participating in the rowing event, will be making an appearance at the games for the first time.
According to Oluode, both athletes are in their various bases training towards the Olympics.
"Right now, both Jonathan Akinyemi and Chierika Ukogu are training hard for the Olympic Games," Oluode told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"Akinyemi is in the United Kingdom and Ukogu is in the United States of America. And the federation (Nigeria Rowing Canoe and Sailing) have been monitoring them, giving them the necessary support in order for them to do well at the Olympics."
Oluode also told Completesportsnigeria.com that Mutual Benefits, the official partners of the NRC and S, will be presenting sport equipment to the federation.
The official presentation which comes up on Thursday in Lekki phase One will have in attendance the Minister of Sports Solomon Dalung.
She pointed out that the essence of the sport equipment is for grassroots development of the sports in Nigeria.
