Carabao Cup: Iheanacho In Action, Musa Out As Man City Squeeze Past Leicester

​Manchester City’s unbeaten run in English football this season continued on Tuesday as they defeated Leicester City 4-3 on penalties to book a place in the semi-finals of the Carabao Cup at the King Power stadium after regulation time and extra time ended 1-1.

Ilkay Gundogan, Yaya Toure, Lukas Nmecha, Gabriel Jesus all scored for Manchester City in the shootout while Christian Fuchs, Harry Maguire and Vicente Iborra were on target from the spot for Leicester City.

Jamie Vardy and Riyad Mahrez missed their decisive spot-kicks as goalkeeper Claudio Bravo emerged as Manchester City’s hero.

Bernardo Silva scored in the 26th minute for Manchester City before Jamie Vardy restored parity for the Foxes towards the end of regulation time.

Nigeria forward K​elechi Iheanacho who made his second Carabao Cup appearance for Leicester City in the defeat gave his former team was involved early on, forcing a save from Bravo in the 13th minute.

Ahmed Musa was left out once again from the match day squad of Leicester City.

Iheanacho also had an attempt on goal in the 17th minute which was blocked by Tosin Adarabioyo.

Iheanacho was booked four minutes later for lunging on Bravo.

Iheanacho was replaced in the 57th minute by Jamie Vardy.

With the game drawing to a close Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola handed academy graduate Tom Dele-Bashiru his senior debut in place of Phil Foden in the 87th minute.

In the 90th minute, Leicester City were handed a penalty after Kyle Walker brought down Demarai Gray in the box.

Vardy stepped up to convert the spot kick into the bottom corner from 12 yards.
