Sudan players and fans were ecstatic as the team defeated Libya 4-2 on penalties to finish third at this year’s Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco on Saturday.
After both teams failed to find the winning goal after a 1-1 draw in 90 minutes, the tie was decided via the lottery of penalties with Sudan emerging victors.
Sudan took the lead in the eighth minute through Waala Musa before Salem Ablo equalised for Libya on 84 minutes.
This is the second time Sudan will finish third at CHAN, making them the only team to achieve the feat.
The first time was in 2011 when they hosted as they pipped Algeria 1-0 to claim third place.
In the final of the 2018 CHAN, hosts Morocco will take on the home-based Super Eagles of Nigeria on Sunday in Casablanca
