By James Agberebi: A hat-trick from Ayoub El Kaabi secured a 3-1 win for hosts Morocco in their second Group A game against Guinea at the ongoing Total Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) on Wednesday.
The win was Morocco’s second of the tournament and secures their place in the quarter-finals after their 4-0 opening day win against Mauritania.
For Guinea, it is their second group stage defeat after they lost 2-1 to Sudan in their first game.
El Kaabi, who bagged a brace against Mauritania and now has five goals, gave Morocco the lead in the 27th minute but Seydouba Camara equalised for Guinea a minute later.
In the 64th minute, El Kaabi made it 2-1 to Morocco before scoring again to claim his hat-trick and put Morocco 3-1 up.
Morocco now sit pretty at the top of Group A on six points while Guinea are third with no points.
Morocco’s last group game is on Sunday against Sudan with Guinea squaring off against Mauritania also on Sunday.
The group’s other game between Sudan and Mauritania comes up later on Wednesday.
A win for Sudan will see them join Morocco in the quarter-finals.
