Zambia have progressed to the quarter-finals of the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) in Morocco after defeating Côte d’Ivoire 2-0 in their second Group B game on Thursday in Marrakech.
A brace from Augustine Mulenga secured Zambia’s second win of the tournament and a place into the last eight.
It is Côte d’Ivoire’s second defeat following their shock opening day loss to Namibia and means they are out of the tournament.
Mulenga gave Zambia the lead in the eighth minute after hitting a low strike into the bottom left-hand corner.
And in the 73rd minute, Mulenga finished off a brilliant counter by Zambia as he dribbled past his markers before shooting past the Ivorian keeper.
Zambia’s next game comes up on Monday against Namibia, while Côte d’Ivoire will face Uganda also on Monday.
Uganda and Namibia will square off in the group’s other game on Thursday.
A win for Namibia will see them join Zambia into the quarter-finals.
