Chelsea’s poor run in the English Premier League continued on Saturday following their 1-0 loss to Stoke City at the Britannia Stadium.
It was Chelsea’s seventh league defeat, the most by a side defending the title in Premier League history.
It was also Chelsea’s third straight EPL defeat, the first time since 1999 the club have lost three league games in a row.
Looking to build on their Champions League win against Dynamo Kyiv, Chelsea took the game to Stoke right from the start but couldn’t break down a well organized defence.
In the second half, Marko Anautovic, who was anonymous in the first half, broke the deadlock in the 53rd minute with a scissors kick.
And in a bid to rescue the game, the trio of Loic Remy, Cesc Fabregas and Oscar were introduced but nothing came out of it.
Stoke also brought in the likes of Geoff Cameron, Ibrahim Afellay and Mame Biram Diouf.
And with no sign of Chelsea salvaging anything from the game, Stoke held on to secure the three point.
The defeat was Chelsea’s seventh of the season and sees them drop to 16th position, making it the worst defence of a title in Premier League history.
