Nigeria striker Brown Ideye outshone his compatriot Obafemi Martins in Tianjin TEDA’s 2-1 win over Shanghai Shenhua in Friday’s Chinese Super League clash, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Ideye, who was left out of the Super Eagles squad to face South Africa in a 2019 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Uyo, scored twice in the encounter to take his tally to four in 11 games this season in the CSL.
Martins, who missed his side’s 3-1 defeat to Guangzhou R&F F.C last weekend, gave his side an early lead in the 11th minute following an assist from Giovanni Moreno. The strike was Martins’ fourth goal in the Chinese Super League this season.
But the lead was cancelled out 25 minutes later by Ideye who latched on to a pass from Nemanja Gudelj.
With 12 minutes left to play Shanghai Shenhua were reduced to 10 men as Peng Li was sent off for a second bookable offence and hosts Tianjin TEDA made their numerical advantage count.
Ideye bagged his second of the game in the 89th minute of the encounter off an assist from Yuanyi Li.
The win saw Tianjin TEDA move up to the eighth position in the CSL table with 13 points from 12 games while Shanghai Shenhua are 12th in the standings with 21 points from 11 games. Shenhua have a game in hand.
