–Says youngster is future of Nigerian football
Erstwhile Super Eagles coach,Christain Chukwu believes Manchester City of England youngster, Kelechi Iheanacho is ripe enough to represent Nigeria’s senior side, the Super Eagles.
Iheanacho,17 has been in superlative form for the Citizens in their pre-season outings ahead of the 2014/2015 Premier League season.
So far he has bagged two goals and was the only Manchester City player to score in their shoot-out defeat to rivals Liverpool on Thursday.
Opinions are divided on whether the player who claimed the Golden Ball with seven goals at last summer’s Under 17 World Championship, should be given a chance to fight for a place in Stephen Keshi’s team that will compete for a ticket to the 2015 African Cup of Nations Finals in Morocco.
Chukwu who led the Super Eagles to a third place finish at the 2004 AFCON finals, insists the time is right to give the player the chance to mix with the big boys.
He declared:Kelechi is no doubt good enough to play for the Super Eagles but eveything depends on the coaches.
‘’The coaches have the right to invite players to the national team but on the basis of what we have seen of the boy in recent outings with Manchester City, they should give him the chance to fight for a place in the team.
‘’We are really blessed to have a player of his calibre at this period and he is no doubt a huge asset to Nigeria” concludes Chukwu.
