Conte: Chelsea A Great Team On Paper, Not Pitch

Antonio Conte has admitted that his Chelsea team is not very good following their 3-0 Premier League defeat at Arsenal on Saturday.

Chelsea found themselves three goals down in the first half with goals from Alexis Sanchez, Theo Walcott and Mesut Ozil.

In his post-match reaction, Conte stated that Chelsea have a lot of work to do.

“It is not good to talk about the defenders. It is most important to talk about the team as a whole,” Conte said.

“We win as a team we lose as a team. We started the game in a bad way from the first minute, and this is strange.

“It is necessary to stay concentrated from the first minute, especially in a massive game like the one today.

“A lot of work is needed: now we are a great team on paper, not on the pitch.

“The team are in a good position to recover. Everyone must responsibility, manager, players and staff.

“We are together in good times and bad times. I hope through work we have more good times than bad times.

“I have to solve the situation, which at the moment is conceding a minimum of two goals. I am working hard to do that.”

Conte dismissed claims that the absence of skipper John Terry had nothing to do with the loss to Arsenal.

He added: “John Terry is recovering but I want to talk about the players who played, not those who didn’t.”

“We must work a lot to find continuity. We can’t think about other situations. We must show we are a great team on the pitch.

“We must reflect on our two defeats in ‘two big games’. We must be humble to understand what is neede now.”
