Confederation of African Football, CAF have appointed controversial Ghanaian referee Joseph Lamptey to officiate Saturday’s 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifier between Nigeria and Congo Brazzaville at the U.J Esuene stadium in Calabar.
Lamptey, born on September 10, 1974is a son of Major Lamptey, one of the best referees Ghana has ever produce . In 2009, Lamptey was promoted as African Elite referee from Africa’s Young Talent group which panel he reached only two years earlier in 2007.
In March 2009 Lamptey was invited to participate in the African U-17 football tournament In Algeria. In the same tournament, the dark complexioned referee handled several games up to the semi final stage.
But his shor coming was seen in 2011 when CAF slammed him with a 6 months ban having allowed a hand ball goal in the Champions League semi final match between Esperance and Al Ahly in October 2010
