Czech Republic coach Karel Jarolim has heaped plaudits on his players after they bounced back from last Friday’s 4-0 defeat against Australia by edging out World Cup-bound Nigeria 1-0 in Austria on Wednesday, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Tomas Kalas scored the winning goal in the first half to hand the Europeans a morale boosting win, but Jarolim felt his side could have scored more.
“It is not only about the result alone but the character of the team. Even if we had lost the game I would have been satisfied with the effort of the players. We have to play like that all the time,” Jarolim who has been linked with the vacant Al Ahly of Egypt coaching job told reporters after the game.
“I made a lot of effort to change so many things and the players reacted to it. They gave a good team performance.
“We made a lot of mistakes in the game against Australia which we should not be making at this level. We played with maturity and the players showed more concentration on the field.”
Despite their impressive showing, Jarolim’s men wasted a number of chances in the game while the Super Eagles bossed the action for major part of the second half.
The coach attributed that to the rain and wind which interrupted play for a while after the break.
“It was unpleasant, it could have played a key role, “he stated.
“I was important that we created those chances but it was a pity that we could not make use of any of the situations.
“It could have been even more positive if we had two goals, especially Patrik Schick 100% chance.”
