As Nigeria’s home-based Super Eagles get set to face hosts Morocco in the final of the 2018 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) on Sunday in Casablanca, Completesportsnigeria. com’s JAMES AGBEREBI unveils the dangerous players the Eagles must watch out for…
AYOUB EL KAABI
Going into the 2018 Africa Nations Championship, little was known about Ayoub El Kaabi but he has been a revelation so far for hosts Morocco.
El Kaabi, 24, had never featured for the Moroccan senior national team until his debut in the opening match against Mauritania on January 13. El Kaabi scored two goals as Morocco won 4-0.
He netted a hat-trick in a 3-1 win against Guinea in Morocco’s second group game and had a brace in the 3-1 semi-final win against Libya.
He is currently the top scorer of the competition with eight goals.
The 23-year-old Wydad Casablanca forward has been one of the key players for Morocco, especially from the left side.
Bencharki has contributed one goal for Morocco which was in the 4-0 thrashing of Mauritania.
And one key moment of Bencharki’s importance in the Moroccan team was his assist for El Kaabi which broke Libya’s resistance in the 3-1 semi-final win.
Despite being closed down by two Libyans on the left, Bencharki still managed to squeeze the pass to El Kaabi to finish with a superb header.
WALID EL KARTI
Walid El Karti is one of the important players who make the Moroccan team tick.
Though he has just one goal to his name in the tournament, he could cause havoc if given the opportunity especially when all attention is focused on El Kaabi.
His only goal was in the 3-1 win against Libya, when he coolly scored the penalty that sealed Morocco’s passage into the last four.
JAWAD EL YAMIQ
Morocco has conceded just two goals so far in the tournament which could be attributed to the defensive display by Jawad El Yamiq.
El Yamiq has been solid for the home side in the centre of defence, making it one of the stingiest throughout the tournament.
The home-based Super Eagles attackers must be at their very best to stand a chance of going past an El Yamiq-led Moroccan defence.
In terms of one of the goalkeepers who have stood out so far in theis year’s CHAN, the name Anas Zniti should pop up.
Zniti has been instrumental in Morocco’s march to the final after conceding just two goals so far thanks to his heroics in goal.
After committing the blunder which saw Libya equalise in the semi-final with five minutes remaining, Zniti put the mistake behind him as he made a brilliant goal line save to keep Morocco in the tie.
