Nigeria’s Falconets coach Peter Dedevbo has said he hopes his team score an early goal to unsettle North Korea in Wednesday’s U-20 Women’s World Cup semi-final.

The Falconets have been to the semi-finals twice – in 2010 they reached the final, where they lost out to Germany, while in 2012 they did not go beyond that stage.

“We have to perfect our possession and control, as well as make sure we get an early goal which will unsettle them,” Dedevbo told FIFA.com

“The higher you go in football, the harder it becomes. I don’t want to leave any stone unturned in the match against Korea.”

Dedevbo who has worked with majority of the players when he was in charge of the women’s U-17 national side, the Flamingos went on:

“I am very much aware that the Koreans are fast on counter attack and that’s is why the girls were not given a day off.”

He added: “I don’t want to disclose my strategies, the game will determine how we play, but I want to tell Nigerians that the team is confident and ready to take on any team”.

Striker Uchechi Sunday promised victory in this semi-final in a chat with www.fifa.com.

“We cannot allow Korea to edge us out. We defeated Korea Republic in the first round and this Korea will go same way,” she boasted.

Uchechi Sunday hopes to get a starting shirt on Wednesday night but admits that coach Dedevbo makes the decisions on team selections.

“I’m dreaming about that semi-final. I don’t know if I’ll start the game – that’s up to the coach – but I do know that no matter who plays, they will have to give their all because we want to be in the final.”

“I promise more goals to my team and will play with my team mates to achieve victory, for my best is yet to come and what a better place to showcase my skills than against the Koreans.”

The match comes up on Wednesday by 9pm Nigerian time.
