Watford captain Troy Deeney has described Nigeria striker Odion Ighalo’s first season in the English Premier League as a success.
Ighalo joined Watford during their time in the Championship from Granada and helped them gain promotion to the EPL last season.
And in his first season in the English top flight, Ighalo scored 17 goals in all competitions.
Reflecting on the just concluded season, Deeney told watfordfc.com that despite the huge expectations that will be placed on Ighalo ahead of next season, he sees him replicating the same goal scoring feat.
“When he first joined he was coming to a new country, a new style of football, but he dug in,” Deeney said.
“He did really well and he has a new challenge now. He had a fantastic season this year scoring 17 goals in all competitions which shouldn’t be sniffed at.
“A lot of pressure will be on him now, but a good goalscorer will always score goals.”
