Dembele’s Nephew Sanusi Fears Belgium Snub, Targets Super Eagles World Cup Spot

Dembele’s Nephew Sanusi Fears Belgium Snub, Targets Super Eagles World Cup Spot

By Adeboye Amosu: Sparta Rotterdam midfielder Ryan Sanusi is eyeing a place in Nigeria’s squad for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

The 25-year-old who has a Nigerian father and a Belgian mother is a nephew of Belgium international Moussa Dembele who plays for Tottenham Hotspur in the English Premier League.

Sanusi is eligible to play for both Nigeria and Belgium although he has already represented the latter at the U-20 level.

“It’s not something I’m really working on, but it would of course be great,” he told Dutch newspaper Het Algemeen Dagblad.

“The Red Devils (Belgium) are far too ambitious. After all, every player wants the highest possible, which is the World Cup., you can not come higher than a World Cup as a footballer.

“You always aim to play at the World Cup as a footballer but the Belgian team will be a difficult story for me.

“To play for Nigeria at the World Cup, of course there are a lot of good footballers in Nigeria, but it seems to me that I will get a chance there rather than in Belgium, although I do not really take it into account.”

Sanusi joined Sparta Rotterdam from Willem II in 2015 and has scored seven goals in 72 appearances.

  • Go and c down

  • I don’t think we need him is super Eagles…. We have over squared , so many talented players….. He should look elsewhere…..

I agree with you the current super eagles setup is blessed with talented players but the midfield needs more quality expecially someone who can help relief the burden of the team’s creativity from mikel obi or atleast an understudy. Ryan sanusi is a defensive midfielder and in his position the team has good defensive minded midfielders who are doing well in their respective clubs. Henry uche agbo have been good for standard liege since he joined them, the much maligned mikel agu have been doing great in turkey for busaspor before he got injured, anderson esiti is a mainstay for belgian former champions gent while wilfred ndidi have been a delight to watch in leicesters colours this season and currently been rated amongst the best tacklers in the epl. With the aforementioned players in rohr’ possession i dont scouting sanusi will be one of his priorities as the world cup approaches. Maybe his lad can get a look in after the mundial but for now as he said earlier getting a look in from nigeria maybe difficult now.

  • Na make we for invite him, do he play like messi

  • go target afcon spot joor.. u nor well

  • You follow do the qualifying work? Abeg go boil stone.

  • Let us try him, and see

  • u are welcome

  • Monkey dey work Barbour dey chop abi .see ur life

  • Where u dey when we were in the qualifying series, you won chop where u know sow..

    • Take am easy with the boy na! At least him recognise Nigeria as him paternal home, What of people wen deny Nigeria outrightly

    • hahh Nja don qualify for world cup and everybody don become halfcast

  • The only thing he must do is to wait for afcon 2019 qualifies, if he truly wants to play for Nigeria so he will feel the hot weather in Africa after that then 2022 world cup qualify we will call him if he is able to play for Nigeria they qualify then he should count himself part of the 2022 world cup 23 man squad for Nigeria simple if he agreed to these then he can play for super eagle.

  • He’s not needed, 7 goals in 72 appearance is a no for me .

  • I think those dat fourth hard before our qualifications ‘re better, all we need is just getting dem together, understand their self better den give d once we ‘ve not given more time to prove their self so can use dem to reshuffle within d rest n stick on d first n second eleven. It is late inviting such players pls, all we need too is for grade A friendly matches to fine tune d team ready for d business.

  • Who will he even bench in current super eagles squad? U better wait oo

  • you are welcome joor.

  • He should be invited for trials

  • Come and increase the numbers of our oyimbo boys lol.

  • Politics is about to come in now..

  • I just Googled d guy, he is lowly rated n averagely talented. Appearance for Rotterdam reads 72, no goal.
I don’t think he put competition for our midfielders in Mikel, Onazi, Ogu…n others.

  • All of them are crawling out if their holes. Where were they when the going was tough?

Well…this is not the first tym he’s been talking abt playing for Nigeria..Apart from onazi, Ndidi, Mikel, Joel obi(who is an injury prone),…… He can tackle john ogu and he’s better than Mikel agu, uche agbo. At least..he wants to play..better than solanke and Abraham that are deceiving themselves

Well have heard about this dude before but dont know how good he is cus am yet to watch him play. If he brings something different to the team i think rohr should give him a trial. With the resurgence joel obi, i think our midfield has more quality that earlier. Also i believe if henry uche agbo is given a chance he wont dissapoint. He has been an ever present figure for belgian giants standard liege amd from what i have noticed he seem more talented than mikel agu. Another good mention than can be an understudy to aging mikel obi is british born spurs player on loan to aston villa joshua onomah.

  • Make we show am luv .and give him the grace to play 4 the super Ealges

  • I think what I like to see for the world cup build up are just few quality players that will be a good addition to the team at the world cup, not too much players for focus sake. Quality and experience goalkeeper to compliment what we have on ground, back up central defenders, 6,5 and 4. And a good pointman as backup as well. I will suggest osihmen, akpoguma and for call up. And few others. This Ryan could be called in as well if fit in to our critical need as well. Time is of essence.

  • Some people are very funny, they say some suffering to qualify nigeria for world cup, The question is are they doing for free? So will needed our best leg to be in Russia either there new players or older.

  • Ifeanyi 1 week

I think since he desire to play for Nigeria the coach should give him and the other New guys chance to prove themselves.

  • PAUL WANTSA 1 week

HE SHOULD NOT BE REJECTED BECUSE, THE SEASON IS STILL LONG SO WE DON’T KNOW WHETHER ONE OF OUR BEST OPTED PLAYER MAY BE INJURED, ALTHOUGH I DID NOT PRAY FOR THAT ANY WAY, BUT SINCE THE DUDE INICIATE INTEREST IN PLAYING FOR HIS FATHER LAND, HE SHOULD BE GIVEN A TRIER.

  • Monkey don work finish baboons wan chop

  • tenimu 1 week

please try this boy and see what he has to offer the team. there no sentiment when you com to world cup. please try by camping him first. if he is good then take him to world cup in Russian.

  • PAUL 1 week

YES WE SHOULD GIVE HIM A TRY BECOS WE NEED EXPERIENCE PLAYER IN OUR TEAM AND MORE MILDFIELD

  • Bring him on

  • Henry 1 week

If he plays like Dembele, then he is better than everyone in super eagle

  • mato 1 week

remember Idowu he did not play in the qualifier but played well against Agantina, so this guy should be given a trial.

  • femi Ajimuda 1 week

Hmmm. i’m being surprised each succeeding day i read about 9ja;s world cup preparation online. Why the surprise, you may ask?
Its about one player or another the coach is looking at or an over-the-heel player(s) that have suddenly woken up that a country bearing Nigeria, going to Russia of course, is on the horizon, shopping for players to prosecute our w/c.
While it is good to be building for the future, i still believe we need some experience on the team. What’s the brouhaha about having the youngest squad when they can fall by the way side when the going gets tough?
Ask Arsene Wenger of Arsenal his experience with youngest squad after the ‘invisibles’ were eased off! Ask the self-styled ‘Dutchgerian’ Westerhoff his experience when he started building his team from 1989-1994?
What is actually needed now is having a versatile team and members who are ‘multi-skilled’ (who can play multiple positions. The bench should be as good as the first 11 and should not be saddled with the horror of USA ’94 (when the team couldnt find its bearing after Amuneke & Amokachi were ‘scientifically’ surgicalised off the field) and BRAZIL ’14 (when the French team was only able to find its bearing and get the upper hand after they succeeded in removing Onazi).
May God help us. Sentiments and Quota System SHOULD not come in here PLS.
