Angel Di Maria has fuelled the speculation linking Cristiano Ronaldo with a shock return to Manchester United by saying that he doesn’t know how much longer the forward will “endure” life at Real Madrid.
Ronaldo set tongues wagging last week when he refused to rule out a possible return to Old Trafford in the coming years.
Now, the Portugal captain’s former team-mate says that he is unsure whether the 29-year-old will stay at the Bernabeu for much longer.
“He [Ronaldo] was always there for me. I don’t know how long he’ll endure it at Madrid,” Di Maria is quoted as saying by Marca.
“The Madrid president [Florentino Perez] said he bought James Rodriguez because I wanted to go but I never said that.
“Cristiano always supported me because he knew I didn’t want to go, but these things happen and the club decided to bring in other players. The €75m (£59.7m) they got through selling me was very good for the club.”
