France defender and Everton’s new £18million signing from Barcelona, Lucas Digne has berated Liverpool fans for misinterpreting his chest tatoo ‘I Never Walk Alone’ to mean a mockery of their beloved club and taking to the social media to vilify him.
Liverpool have an official slogan, ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’ which their loyal fans are defending.
The left-back who was a standby player for the French team that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia explains that his tattoo was inspired by an inscription on the necklace he received from his parents when he was a kid.
Digne also alludes that Liverpool fans are not happy with him after he said no twice to The Reds’ move to sign him. He believes that they are now upset seeing him joining their local rivals, Everton.
“My tattoo has a story but it’s not about football,” Digne defends himself during his unveiling at Every one.
‘When I was three or four years old, I went for my first day at school and my parents gave me a necklace with these words.’
”Maybe Liverpool fans are so angry against me because I said two times no to Liverpool. I’m blue.”
Digne is looking to make his first debut for Marco Silva’s team in today’s pre-season friendly match with Valencia, ahead of their Premier League season opener against Wolves on August 11.
