–Echiejile wants winning start for Eagles
AS Monaco defender Elderson Echiejile expects Nigeria to get off to a winning start in Saturday’s AFCON qualifier against Congo in Calabar but warns his teammates against complacency.
African champions Nigeria welcome the Red Devils from Congo tomorrow to begin the defence of the continental crown they won last year in South Africa and the 26 year old left back admits
“We will hope for a winning start at home against Congo,” the Monaco left back, who was ruled out of the recent World Cup in Brazil as a result of injury, told his official website www.elderson3.com
“This is not to say that we will underrate Congo because there are no longer small teams in the game and so we will respect all the teams, but we also want to win for the country.”
It has been raining cats and dogs in Calabar and Elderson said he hopes the weather will be dry to allow for the Eagles to fully express themselves on the pitch.
“Rain ball will really make it difficult for us to express ourselves on the pitch and so my prayer is that it does not rain on match day so that we can really play our normal game,” he said.
The Eagles next AFCON qualifier will be on Wednesday in Cape Town against hosts South Africa.
“We are always looking forward to matches against South Africa because we have a good record against them,” said the star defender.
