Borussia Dortmund defeated Manchester United 4-1 in this year’s pre-season International Champions Cup played on Friday inside Shanghai Stadium in China.
Goals from Gonzalo Castro (brace) Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembele led to the impressive Dortmund victory.
Former Dortmund forward Henrik Mkhitaryan got Manchester United’s only goal.
Castro put Dortmund ahead in the 19th minute, pouncing on a rebound after Sam Johnstone had denied Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ousmane Dembele’s initial effort.
Dortmund doubled their lead through Aubameyang who converted a 36th minute penalty following a handball by Antonio Valencia inside the 18-yard box.
Prior to the start of the second half, United made four changes, introducing Marcos Rojo, Sergio Romero, Ashley Young and Marcos Rashford for Johnstone, Phil Jones, Jesse Lingard and Memphis Depay.
Dortmund made it 3-0 in the 57th minute through Dembele who beat two markers before sliding the ball past Romero.
Mkhitaryan reduced the deficit when he scored on 59 minutes, finishing off a pass from Juan Mata
Castro made it 4-1, grabbing his second goal with a long-range strike.
Manchester United’s next International Champions Cup game comes up on Monday against city rivals Manchester City.
Dortmund will take on Manchester City next Thursday.
