National senior basketball men’s team, D’Tigers will today play Burkina Faso in a long awaited 2015 FIBA-Africa Basketball Championship qualifier against Burkina Faso, Complete Sports can report.
The match which was scheduled to hold on Saturday had to be shifted to Monday due to the political situation in Burkina Faso. The match will also serve as qualifier for the All Africa Games billed to hold in Congo later in the year.
The Coach Sani Ahmed led side departed the country’s shores last Friday and are expected to return to the country on Tuesday after the match while the second leg match holds in Nigeria on a date and venue yet to be decided by FIBA-Africa and the Nigeria Basketball Federation, NBBF.
Complete Sports gathered from the team’s camp in Ouagadougou that two key players in the team are battling fitness ahead of the crucial match.
According to Complete Sports source, both Abubakar Usam and Abu Yaya were not 100% fit for the game as at yesterday but Coach Sani Ahmed was confident the players would be fit for the match.
Meanwhile, the team will take part in a 4-Nation Invitational Tournament billed to hold in South Africa this week and they are expected to depart the country’s shores for the former apartheid country on Tuesday.
