D’Tigress Coach Impressed Despite Afrobasket Test Match Defeat

By Johnny Edward:

The assistant coach of Nigeria's D'Tigress Peter Ahmedu is confident that the team will get better before they depart for the 2017 Afrobasket For Women billed for 18 August to 27 August in Mali, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.

D’Tigress lost to Raptors Basketball Club of Lagos 71-55 in their first test match on Wednesday ahead of the 2017 Afrobasket, but Ahmedu took the positives from the game.

Ahmedu who stood in for the head coach Sam Vincent also admitted that he was overwhelmed by managing the team during the encounter.

"With what I have seen so far, I am very impressed because this is the first game we are playing together since the arrival of the foreign-based players from the United States of America," Ahmedu told Completesportsnigeria.com.

"Managing over 20 girls on the bench was another problem. To look at them and pass instructions was another problem.”

He however promised that necessary corrections will be made as the team intensify their preparation for the championship.

Nigeria are 2017 Afrobasket for Women Group B with Senegal, Egypt, Mozambique, Guinea and Congo.
