Newly contracted Technical Adviser of Sunshine Stars, Duke Udi, has assured the supporters of the club that the NPFL side will not be relegated at the end of the current season, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Udi, a former Sunshine Stars midfielder, is a veteran of the Nigerian league having played for many clubs during his active days,including Concord, 3SC, Plateau United, Enyimba, Julius Berger, Lobi Stars, Kwara United, Akwa United and Niger Tornadoes.
He also had stints at some European clubs, including Grasshoppers (Switzerland), SK Slovan Bratislava (Slovakia), Hapoel Rishon LeZion FC (Israel) and Krylia Sovetov (Russia).
Udi who has coached FC Giwa of Jos and assisted Imama Amakapabo at Enugu Rangers, was until his latest appointment the head coach of Osun United, a Nigeria National League (NNL) side.
He handed in his resignation letter at Osun United on Monday and headed straight for his new post at Sunshine Stars, replacing former Nigeria international and ex-Super Eagles coach, Austin Eguavoen who resigned as boss of the Azure side after five weeks of his appointment.
Udi is being assisted by former teammate at Shooting Stars and ex-captain of Enyimba, Tony Alegbe on the task of rescuing his former club from the trough of relegation
"We will work hard to ensure that the club remain in the Premier League,
" Udi told Completesportsnigeria.com on Tuesday.
"It requires hard work, commitment and sacrifice on the part of the players, officials, coaches and supporters.
"Nothing is impossible in football, especially given the group of players I've seen in the team," Duke the former Super Eagles midfielder stated.
