Switzerland-based defender, Steve Ukoh has declared that he is quite excited to make his long awaited debut for the Nigeria national team in Sunday’s international friendly against the star-studded Elephants of Cote D’Ivoire team.
Ukoh who was a second-half substitute in the game Nigeria narrowly lost 1-0 to the Cote d’Ivoire said it was a dream come true to finally don the green and white jersey of Nigeria after completing his paper works to switch allegiance to play for the country.
“First of all, I will like to give all the glory to God, I really enjoyed my first cap for Nigeria and I am happy that people saw that it turned out well” Ukoh said after Sunday’s game in Abu Dhabi.
The former Swiss youth international who was surprisingly the first to hit the United Arab Emirates before the arrival of the contingent from Nigeria also said that he is quite appreciative of how he has been openly received by the rest of the national teammates.
“It’s a big family, they really welcomed me well, I can say I am at home” Ukoh declared.
Interestingly, Ukoh’s father was among the handful of fans that enjoyed the battle between the West African rivals while the rest of the family watched on screen as Ukoh took a big leap in his football career.
