HOW EAGLES FARED VS SUDAN

HOW EAGLES FARED VS SUDAN

VINCENT ENYEAMA 4/10
The returning goalkeeper did his best as usual but couldn’t help his side avoid defeat against the Sudanese.

AMBROSE EFE 2/10
The Celtic defender put up an insipid display and was often times exposed by the Sudanese defenders, who found plenty of joy coming through his side of the defence.

GODFREY OBOABONA 3/10
Not one of his best games in the green and white colours of Nigeria. The Turkey based player was not at his usual best and failed to live up to his high rating

KENNETH OMERUO 2/10
A disappointing display from the young defender.Omeruo alongside his central defensive partner,Godfrey Oboabona failed to deal with the cross that led to Sudan’s solitary goal in the game.

ELDERSON ECHIEJILE 2/10
His inactivity at club level really showed in his performance as he failed to cope with the fast paced Sudanese forwards.

OGENYI ONAZI 3/10
The Lazio man started the game brightly but like some of his teammates, fizzled out and failed to live up to his high ratings. He failed to combine well with the duo of John Obi Mikel and Nosa Igiebor in the midfield and was one of Super Eagles worst performers on the night.

NOSA IGIEBOR 2/10
Igiebor failed to justify his inclusion in the starting line-up as he failed to put a foot right for the entire duration he spent on the pitch before he was substituted at the start of the second half.

JOHN OBI MIKEL 3/10
Another insipid display by the Chelsea Football Club of England midfielder. Mikel failed to stamp his authority in the middle of the park and placed a number of longe range shots wide.

AHMED MUSA 3/10
Another of the senior players who failed to make an impact in the game. The Russia based forward failed to raise his game and proved his inconsistency at the international level once again.

GBOLAHAN SALAMI 2/10
Cleary one of Nigeria’s worst performers on the night. He looked heavy and most times found it difficult to control the ball. It’s difficult to see him feature for the African Champions again on the basis of this performance.

EMMANUEL EMENIKE 3/10
Emenike started the game brightly but fizzled out and fluffed a couple of chances to help his side win the game and boost their chances of making it to Morocco. It was probably his worst game for Nigeria

SUBSTITUTES
AARON SAMUEL 1/10
Needed the game to prove his class to fans of the Super Eagles but showed his inclusion was not based on merit.Hardly put a foot right on the night.

EMMANUEL SUNDAY CHUKWUEMEKA 1/10
Like his fellow debutant, Emmnanuel failed to make an impact in the game.

RAHEEM LAWAL [CAN’T BE RATED]
Came on for Ambrose Efe but couldn’t salvage the situation.

  • Nonsense rating, poor journalism

  • @bilanto is it nonsense rating or nonsense display by the super eagles players? If coach Keshi is to continue as the coach of super eagles, most of this players are going to be dropped because they been bought by top politicians in the glass house who doesn’t want Keshi’s success.

Nigeria are being sabotaged – Stephen Keshi

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi has claimed his side’s struggles in qualifying for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations are the result of “sabotage”.

The Super Eagles suffered a shock 1-0 defeat by Sudan on Saturday, and are bottom of Group A with only one point.

Nigeria have many off-field issues, with the football federation in crisis and Keshi working without a contract.

“There is sabotage by some people. I won’t mention their names but they know themselves,” said Keshi.

“It is embarrassing that as reigning champions we are struggling in the qualifying series”

    Amaju Pinnick NFF president

“They want to run this team down. Some people are ready to sell this country for a dime. They want to sabotage the Super Eagles.

“It’s a shame. They don’t want this team to get to the Nations Cup, they want this team to lose outright.”

Nigeria host Sudan, who are now third in the standings with three points, in a return fixture on Wednesday in Abuja.

Next month, they travel to second-placed Congo, who defeated them 3-2 in September, before the arrival of group leaders South Africa.

The Super Eagles have to win all three matches and hope other results go their way if they are to stand any chance of qualifying for the finals in Morocco in January.

Newly-elected Nigeria Football Federation president Amaju Pinnick has criticised the team’s qualifying performances but says there is no rush to make a decision over Keshi’s future.

“It is embarrassing that, as reigning champions, we are struggling in the qualifying series, with only one point out of a possible nine. It is an awful output,” he said.

“However, we want our people to be patient and not stampede the federation to take knee-jerk decisions that will backfire in the end.”

We have seen the players ratings, what of the coach’s rating?
If someone other than the coach is trying to sabotage this country and the team, could that be the key players, who are already established at their club sides making a lot of money? Or could it be the new players that no one even knows about? Or the coach who is in charge of the full team, and given a free hand to select his own players for the match prosecution (and would refuse to take anyone’s advise on which player to invite).

All I can say is that the new NFF president has the rare privilege of understanding exactly who Keshi is one on one, having been part of a recent past transaction. We shall see!!!
