Ebuehi Sure Super Eagles Will Reach World Cup Second Round

ADO Den Haag right-back Tyronne Ebuehi is certain the Super Eagles will reach the knockout stages of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.

Nigeria will face Iceland, Croatia and Argentina in Group D at the World Cup in Russia.

Ebuehi who has made three international appearances for Gernot Rohr’s side dreams of making the squad for the World Cup.

“Even though we won 4-2 against Argentina in November, it’s still a very difficult opponent, especially when Lionel Messi is competing, and he didn’t play against us,” Ebuehi told his club’s official website.

“Also Iceland and Croatia have shown how good they are. I think we will certainly qualify for the next round, but then everything has to be right.”

The 21-year-old also explained why his move to Portuguese club Benfica fell through during the January transfer window.

“It was not my goal to leave ADO Den Haag at all costs this winter, I am still young, my time is coming,” he said.

“I am just very happy that I am still playing here and the coach gave me that advice. ‘Stay at ADO Den Haag, at least you can make minutes there’.”

Ebuehi has played 27 of ADO Den Haag’s 29 matches this season, missing two due to injury and suspension.

“One and a half year ago I did not dare to think that I would get the attention of such a big club and play in the national team, it could indeed go fast in football,” he added. “I see it as a result of daily working hard to get better, that’s already bearing fruit, but I’m not there yet.

“I have to keep developing myself, I have not finished at ADO Den Haag yet.”

ADO Den Haag are ninth in the Dutch Eredivisie table with 39 points from 29 games, three points adrift of Vitesse who occupy the final UEFA Europa League qualification spot.

“It’s going very well, yes, we do not have to look down any more and everything is quiet around the club, which of course we are not satisfied with,” Ebuehi said.

“If we pick up good form after the loss against AZ, we can qualify to play European football next season.

“It would be something, special to qualify for European football and the World Cup. Yes, the dream would be complete.”

Nigerian-Brazilian striker Dominic Uzoukwu is among the leading scorers in the Chinese League One after netting a brace for Beijing BG in their 2-1 win at Shenzhen in the fourth round of matches on Wednesday, April 4.

The 23-year-old São Paulo native had already opened his account for the season in his team’s 3-0 rout of ZJ Yiteng on his competitive debut for the club he joined from Vejle Boldklub in the January transfer window.

Dominic opened the scoring from close range on 22 minutes after goalkeeper Guan Zhen had spilled the ball into his path.

Ohandza was on hand to equalize for the home team in the 64th minute before the Nigerian striker netted the winner with two minutes left on the clock.

The number 31 was played in by a teammate and fired home with his left foot to take his tally for the season to three goals in four appearances.

Despite Uzoukwu’s close ties to Brazil, the physical striker has stated that he will not turn down the chance to represent the Super Eagles if he is approached by the Nigeria Football Federation.

Coach Rohr hope you are watching? God bless Nigeria!!!

Super Eagles Coach Rohr Explains Why He Snubbed FC Midtjylland Striker Paul Onuachu
    April 5, 2018010

A reason behind the omission of FC Midtjylland red hot striker Paul Onuachu has been provided by coach of the senior national team of Nigeria Gernot Rohr.

Onuachu was among the top marksman in Denmark last season with 18 league goals to his name, and he started this season in similar fashion by scoring 9 goals in ‎17 games. A form which led to calls about an invitation to the Nigerian national team.

As first reported by Owngoalnigeria.com, Rohr noticed‎ the abilities of the 23 year old last season and asked his scouts to monitor him closely, and according to the coach the striker was set to be called up before he later changed his mind.

In an interview with Sportinglife newspaper, Rohr said he omitted the over six feet tall‎ striker because he discovered that he has not been playing for his Danish side this season, which could most likely means he is having fitness issues.

Rohr explained that the last time the forward kicked a ball in anger was over a month ago, on the 9th of February precisely, and that made him exclude him from the list of players who prosecuted the friendly games against Poland and Serbia respectively.

The Franco-German coach of the Super Eagles rounded up by saying he is still open to inviting new players to his team provided they can compete with the players he presently has in his team.

This man called coach Rohr Have no excuses not to invite this Onuachi, Adi, Dresser and co before the world cup. We are watching ooo. God bless Nigeria!!!

Omo9ja, you must understand Rohr is operating from a corrupt system, the man is inviting players based on the lists giving to him.A good coach would not be using the lines of overhyped Iwobi or clueless Musa and Iheanacho.. at least nine players in current squad those not merit eagles jersey. Sentiment and bribery rules in Naija. Bunch of jokers, first round knockout awaits them.

    • Bomboy 7 months ago

@Sunnyb, did u say Iwobi is overhyped? He was our best player against Serbia. He scored some of the goals that helped us qualify for this tournament. All u guys (including omo9ja and co.) clamouring for the inclusion of certain players should get this straight: the coach knows what he is doing! Those he has invited are about the best available. Remember how some of u clamoured for Joel Obi? If he was not invited u would have said we lost the Serbia game Because of his abscence.

Nigeria Fans Are Very Childish…Imagine Someone Saying GR is corrupt!!! a coach must stick with the squad he knows…and invite very few new players so as nt to cause ambiguity…i am still in support of rohr…at least he invited players like ajayi and j.obi. the only prob i have with him are akpeyi and agu

I don’t think the SuperEagles were in full throttle against Serbia. The Serbians were determined to get a win by every means in that game. I can only draw a lot positives from our encounter with Poland. With a little twinkle here and there I think the first 11 against Poland will not let us down. Mikel will be back in the first 11 and maybe one or two other additions, I believe the SuperEagles will not be easy to beat in Russia. The good thing is that most of our hopefuls are getting game time at their various clubsides. Hopefully they all remain fit and injury free. I’m sure once we embark on the three weeks camping with this technical crew SuperEagles will be exciting to watch in Russia. Even though it won’t be easy to make it out of that group I really fancy our chances. #FLY LIKE AN EAGLE INTO THE FUTURE#

Omo9ja and co. Hav been doing this right from the time of kickoffnigeria. They’ll always clamour for one player or the other. They did same thing to late Keshi prior to 2014 World cup. It is high time you guys grow up. Imagine someone claiming that 9 players from current squard aren’t eagles material. The players that help the nation to earn its easiest ever qualification for a world cup from a difficult and seemingly impossible group are now not super eagles materia, which super eagles? Your video game super eagles or Nigeria’s super eagles?
If you can’t find a Nigerian playing regularly in any of EPL, La liga, serie A, Bundesliga or Ligue 1 who is not already in present squard, please stop this your silly, childish, embarrassing and annoying clamours. Super Eagles are underdogs, your ‘superstars’ can’t make them favourites.

  • Ayphillydegreat 7 months ago

There’s nothing wrong in clamoring for players, everyone clamor for players particular the media itself. It just depends on the kind of player and the league he plays in. Any good Nigerian player playing in the EPL, Laliga, Serie A, or Eredivise is good enough to be in the SuperEagles for me. If not for Osaze in 2014 and the magnificent Enyeama SuperEagles would never make it out of the group. Keshi went to that WorldCup with a mediocre bench, imagine Gabriel Reuben, Agbim, Uzoenyi, Babatunde and co going to the WorldCup at the expense of Joel Obi, Aluko, Ike Uche and some other players doing really well at the time. Maybe we could’ve done better than the 2nd round exit. For now all we need is a very solid bench when the going gets tough. We already have a team in place, but there’s work to do.

  • Luqmanov 7 months ago

Yes ofcourse nothing wrong if you do so constructively but not when you cast aspersions and forecast doom because your favorite player has not yet been invited. I think we should encourage our players and support them come rain come shine. We shouldn’t right our boys off just because they lost a warm up match. The purpose of these matches is to identify problems and find solution. More players will certainly be given a chance when the preparation begins in May, but the coach knows his ‘indispensables’. We must be humble with our expectations. Super Eagles aren’t in any way near the class of the favourites like Spain, Germany, Brazil, et al, but we can win the world cup afterall, Greece won Euro 2014, who says we can’t do the Leicester? But let’s remain moderate with our expectations. I’m personally confident we can ‘easily’ qualify from the group (just my hunch!). God bless Super Eagles!

I can only talk about my concerns. I don’t know about others most of the players I called for their inclusion are already in the team. So I’m good on that aspect. For me I will prefer a Sadiq Umar to an Onuachu Or Adi. I don’t think fans are forecasting doom rather showing their concerns for their darling team. The coach have a decision to make in making sure that our most inform players are called upon.
