Super Eagles left back Elderson Echiejile is poised to make his third start in the French Cup for Monaco who host Ligue 2 promotion chasers Racing Club de Lens in the quarter-finals at the Stade Louis Wednesday night.
Coach Claudio Ranieri listed the Nigeria international in his 20 man squad for the game following his sterling display on his debut in Sunday’s 1-1 draw with LOSC Lille in Ligue 1.
Echiejile who joined the big-spending French Ligue 1 side Monaco from Portuguese club Sporting Braga, made his debut for his side in the competition where they defeated Monts d’Or Azergues 3-0.
His second start was in Monaco’s lone goal win over Nice.
Meanwhile, Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has said he would not worry himself over the nation’s top players who have limited playing time at their respective clubs in Europe ahead of the World Cup.
Keshi said he will stick with them as they have continued to deliver for the national team.
“It’s unfortunate Mikel, Elderson and Moses are not playing regularly for their clubs. But they are not kids who I need to teach how to play football,” said Keshi at a round-table discussion organised by TOM-TOM.
“It’s difficult but they play good for the team when they are here which is more important for our team. We need them in the team and we all know their ability.”
