Eguavoen: Don’t Write Off Keshi, Eagles

–Ex-international believes Nigeria will be at Morocco 2015 AFCON
By Bamidele Boluwaji:

Ex-international, Austin Eguavoen has called on Nigerians not to write off the Super Eagles after their goalless draw with the Bafana Bafana of South Africa in a 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifier played in Cape Town on Wednesday.

The African champions who were expected to beat the South Africans in the encounter struggled to a 0-0 score line and the performance has been widely condemned by Nigerians who expected the team to learn from the 3-2 defeat suffered in the hands the Red Devils of Congo last weekend.

But Eguavoen believes that it would be a wakeup call for both the players and the coaches as he warned that the result should not be used to judge the technical ability of Coach Stephen Keshi.

“It is unfortunate that the match ended in that manner but we should still be hopeful because we still have more games to play and I feel the players should not also be condemned, many factors worked for the South Africans and I believe that they must have learned lessons that will bring out their best next time they return to play,” says Eguavoen.

“They need our support at a time like this and I don’t think we should write them off. We have been in situation like this before and we still qualified, I am not saying they have done the best but I want you to know that it is not over yet and I believe we can still qualify with the remaining matches.

Meanwhile, the Super Eagles will return in October to play Sudan in home and away affairs and Eguavoen has warned that they must win the two encounters.

  • What do you expect from another Ke$hi sycophant. Nobody wrote Ke$hi off. He wrote himself off with his unprofessional attitude and clandestine activities as coach of one of the best National Soccer Team brands in the world. Ke$hi was behind the players’ revolt (twice) and he was also working behind the scenes against the current NFF board with the incompetent and bad luck sports minister appointed by the President. Both Ke$hi and the minister need to go before they get stoned in the public square. The Super Eagles are the only thing of joy for Nigerians all over the world and this mafioso coach (applying the same mafia tactics he used when he played for Nigeria) has destroyed the brand. The AFCON win was a fluke and we all know that. ONE freaking win in the last 11 games. Haba, kilode! Ke$hi, please go away before you begin to acquire curses on your head.

  • Same blablabla all the time, we need a new true Government, new uncorrupt football federation, new coaches and a new dedicated team with mental and physical strength. Omg the country need a lot of new stuff!

Keshi’s problem began immediately after AFCON 2013,when he felt he’s arrived with the set of rookies he selected to prosecute the tournament,I knew it will soon boil down to this state anyway,1st it was osaze, ike uche, sunday mba, brown ideye,& most recently victor moses, who we all know this set of guys contribute an integral part in 9ja’s quest @ tournament.I knew nemesis will soon catch up with him after those guys (particularly sunday mba, brown ideye) gave their all only to be dropped @ a time when it mattered most (WC).I hate to say this but i don’t see 9ja qualifying for AFCON 2015.why can’t we learn from mistakes for God sake..same thing that befall siasia will soon befall keshi…read my lips

Chidi Nwanu is right that the team needs overhauling and and new players. New players will put the currently players under pressure to perform. Some of the players are feeling too comfortable with no competiton.

The following players should be invited to the next Super eagles outing.

Kelechi Iheanacho (for attacking creativity, passing ability, and goal scoring)
    Isacc Success
Chuks Aneke (for midfield creativity, passing ability, technical skill and goal scoring)
    Chinedu Obasi
Kenny Otigba (to provide comepetiion for Omeruo and Oboabona)

    Etc………
