Ekoku: Super Eagles Showed No Urgency In Croatia’s Defeat

By Adeboye Amosu:

Former Super Eagles forward Efan Ekoku claims the team showed no urgency in the 2-0 defeat against Croatia in their  Group D fixture at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Kaliningrad on Saturday, reports Completesportsnigeria. com.

Gernot Rohr’s men showed little desire to win  the game and extended their win-less streak in their opening group game at the World Cup to four games.

An own goal by Oghenekaro Etebo and Luka Modric’s penalty gave Croatia the win.

“No shame in losing to Croatia. However, the lack of urgency is particularly worrying for a WC opening game. It was evident against England at Wembley and is becoming a reoccurring theme 🤔,”Ekoku, a member of Super Eagles squad to the 1994 World Cup in United States of America wrote on his Twitter handle.

” Let’s put tactics aside for a minute! Fire in the belly can take you a long way, look at Iceland at the last Euros. Gernot Rohr has to inject fire into the squad…somehow 💪.”

The  Super Eagles will face Iceland in their next game on Friday at the Volgograd Stadium.

I am not a coach but with this same set of players I will get result. I will never play Mikel as a creative MF, but holding MD. Iwobi will surely do. This is only problem with the team. Try this super eagle will score many goals.

Of all the post match comments, this is the one that has hit the nail on the head. Yeah, mistakes may have played a part, yeah maybe tactics but the major issue was urgency, passion and fighting spirit. Eagles please play with Naija fighting spirit. Kindly go and watch Mexico play. You don’t need to play for Real & Barça like Modric & Rakitic (the excuse some fans gave) to be able to play with passion.

Finally, our transition play is ZERO!!! What happened to the transition play we had during the qualifiers? Please check the 3rd & 4th goals we scored against Cameroon in the first leg.
