Former Nigeria international, Friday Ekpo, has called for maximum support for new Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr.
Rohr's appointment as Eagles new handler was confirmed by the Nigeria Football Federation on Tuesday.
In a chat with Completesportsnigeria.com, Ekpo, who played under Manfred Hoener, a former Eagles German coach, said criticizing Rohr now without seeing what he has to offer will only affect the Eagles during 2018 World Cup qualifiers.
"German people are business-like people," Ekpo told Completesportsnigeria.com.
"As we all know, time changes and we have different kind of people that come in and out. He might have a different mentality from Manfred Hoener.
"So what we need to do is to watch him, give him our support and see his good side and what he will try to do with the national team.
"We shouldn't start criticizing him because doing that will discourage him. We are known to rush things. Two months from now, we will be playing against Zambia in the World Cup qualifier so we need to give him the time to assess players both the foreign-based players and home-based players. We need to give him support in order to build a solid team for us ahead of the qualifiers.
"I give him my support but I have always being someone that always advocates for Nigerian coaches. But since the NFF went for a foreign coach then we have no choice but to back him."
