Fenerbache’s Nigerian forward Emmanuel Emenike scored his first goals in the UEFA Champions League third qualifying round in Wednesday’s 2-1 victory against French side AS Monaco who were without Elderson Echiejile, Completesportsnigeria.com reports.
Emenike who missed a clear cut chance in the 23rd minute with a tame header latched on to a long pass from Simon Kjaer to beat substitute goalkeeper Loic Badiashile from close range with a simple finish in the 39th minute.
Monaco restored parity four minutes later when Ramadel Falcao when the Colombian forward capitalised on a defensive error from the Yellow Canaries.
The former Nigerian international who scored thrice in pre-season restored Fenerbache’s lead in the 61st minute with a half volley inside the box for his second goal on the night.
The 29-year-old got a standing ovation for his performance when he was replaced in the 71st minute for Aatif Chahechouhe.
In Greece, Brown Ideye’s Olympiakos were held to a goalless draw at home to Hapoel Beer Sheva who paraded his compatriots John Ogu and Tony Nwakaeme.
In Slovakia, Nigeria quartet of Rabiu Ibrahim, Samuel Kalu, Aliko Bala and Christopher Udeh were all in action for Trencin who lost 1-0 at home to Polish side Legia Warszawa.
The only goal of the game was scored by Nemanja Nikolic in the 69th minute.
Bala was replaced by Jamarro Diks with 11 minutes remaining.
