Emenike: I’m Not Under Pressure To Score

By Richard Jideaka, Abuja:

Nigeria striker, Emmanuel Emenike has expressed joy that the Super Eagles were able to prove to Sudan that their win in Khartoum was a fluke.

Speaking after the Super Eagles 3-1 victory over Sudan in the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifying match played in Abuja, Emenike said it was a sweet revenge of the 1-0 loss in Khartoum, adding that it is good to return to winning ways after over five games.

The Turkey based defender also added that he was not losing sleep over the goal drought that has trailed his national team performance since last year after scoring two goals against Ethiopia in Addis Ababa in a World Cup qualifier, saying his goals will come.

“I am not under pressure to score goals for the Eagles. I want to score but if the goal does not come and we win our games, good for the team. My goals will surely come so our fans should not worry about me”, says the Super Eagles striker.

He continued “It happens in football some times. I am working very hard to regain my scoring form for Nigeria and my club”.

On the chances of Super Eagles making it to the African Cup of Nation, the Fernabahce FC striker said he is optimistic that Nigeria will be represented when the championship gets underway in Morocco next year.

He however assured that the players will try their best to win their remaining two games while praying for other teams to drop points, stressing that any of the four teams in group A can still qualify.
