Super Eagles striker and 2013 African Cup of Nations goleador, Emmanuel Emenike, is battling to regain match fitness ahead of the start of the new Turkish Super Lig season.
The Eagles star was authorized by the officials at Fenerbahce to prolong his holidays after World Cup duty with the Super Eagles.
Last week Wednesday, Emenike resumed pre – season training with the Yellow Canaries, but was not considered for selection the following day as the Turkish champions fell 2 – 1 to Sheffield United at Bramall Lane.
Having started practice, the 27 year old is being put through his paces with a special individual programme so he’s in ship shape just as the rest of the squad.
Although it was barely two days since the striker started training, the burly forward was given a runout in Saturday’s exhibition game against Sevilla, getting a taste of the action for the last quarter of an hour.
Clearly, Fenerbahce coaches were unimpressed with Emenike’s performance against the Spanish opponents, and the plan now is to get him to peak fitness before the charity tournament that pits them with Chelsea and Besiktas on Friday.
Fenerbahce’s first official game of the season is the Super Cup clash on August 14 against Istanbul rivals, Galatasaray.
