Arsenal manager, Unai Emery, hails the contribution of Alex Iwobi in his side’s 1-1 home draw against Liverpool at the Emirates Stadium on Saturday but has tasked the Nigeria international to add goals to his goals, Completesportsnigeria. com reports.

Iwobi came off the bench in the second half for Henrikh
Mkhitaryan and teed up Alexandre Lacazette for the Gunners equalising goal eight minutes from the end.

Englishman James Milner gave Liverpool the lead with a fierce shot a minute after the hour mark.

The draw help preserve Arsenal’s 14 games unbeaten run in all competitions after a difficult start to the campaign which saw them fell to back-to-back defeats against Manchester and Chelsea.

“We need every player. The characteristics each player has is very important and Iwobi can impact high in the match. At the beginning and when he starts on the bench,” Emery told reporters after the game.

“Today I think he is better on the left. His impact on parts of the match like our goal I think is important. His energy and quality is important.

“But he can improve, he can do better. He scored against Chelsea a lot of matches ago and I want him to be nearer the box to have chances to score more. I think he can.”

Arsenal host Sporting CP in midweek in the Europa League before looking to extend their unbeaten run in the Premier League next weekend against Wolves.

  • gradually gradually he is stamping his authority and putting his critics especially some arsenal fans to same. With time he will start banging in goals too..

  • The manager shouldn’t put Iwobi under too much pressure to score. Assisting too is very necessary. Putting him under too much pressure to score might result in him to be selfish, and this might affect his current form.

@Akin, the coach does not want to put unnecessary pressure rather he wants to bring out more potentials in him. Just imagine Iwobi scores like 10 goals before the end of the year and coupled with his fine displays, He would be a Contender for so many awards e.g African player of the year, Youth player of the year, Club Player/Youth player of the year, Young player of the season. So many awards await him only if he add goals to his fine game

  • Iwobi’s time is now and should be encouraged to give more on the field byadding goals to his game. Given his quality, think he hasnt done enough. HE needs to do more to keep his first team place by being more consistent.

  • i dont like this coach putting pressure on iwobi scoring mostly to stay in the box and score. he is young let him go and struggle from the back and drive the team forward wit his run to have more confidence….and he will also score. dont let him lazy like ozil aubamayang that cannot tackle. thats why i like hazard always drive team forward with run. what if he stay near dat box and fail to score as expected….we knw iwobi right leg is not too good in shooting.
