Unai Emery is looking to continue his good record in the Europa League by guiding Arsenal to success in the tournament this season. The Gunners were handed a testing group draw on Friday as they will clock up the air miles to face games against Ukraine’s Vorskla Poltava, Qarabag of Azerbaijan, and Portugal’s Sporting Lisbon in Group E.
The amount of travelling involved could hinder Arsenal’s bid to fight it out for success in Europe and domestically, but Emery is keen to go at least one better than the team’s semi-final appearance last season under former boss Arsene Wenger.
Emery, who won the Europa League three times when in charge of Sevilla, said: “First it’s three teams and we’ll have the recipe for them.
“After this, we want to go far in this competition.
“Each match is different and each match involves a lot of travel.
“The adaptation for these three teams needs to be positive and we need to face them with ambition and our interest to do well in the competition.”
Meanwhile, Emery is hopeful of being able to call upon Henrikh Mkhitaryan for the game in Azerbaijan despite the country’s ongoing conflict with the midfielder’s native Armenia.
