Arsenal manager Unai Emery has explained why he hurled off Nigeria forward Alex Iwobi at halftime in Sunday’s 1-1 draw at home to Wolverhampton Wanderers, reports Completesportsnigeria.com.
Emery brought on Matteo Guendouzi for Iwobi in the second half as Arsenal fought back to earn a draw in the encounter.
The Spaniard revealed that Iwobi was replaced in a bid to change a system that had failed to bring results during the first half.
The draw stretched Arsenal’s unbeaten run in all competitions to 16 matches.
“It was a tactical change,” Emery explained after the game.
on Iwobi’s substitution.
“We wanted to play our right and left-backs deeper and win back more possession inside with Sead and Hector. Sometimes we did this situation well and we created chances to score.
“Their work was good defensively because their block was very high.”
Iwobi has scored once in nine EPL games for Arsenal this season. He is expected in the Super Eagles’ camp latest tomorrow ahead of Saturday’s 2019 Africa Cup Of Nations qualifier against South Africa.
